I've been watching baseball clips on TikTok and every time I see a home run, with all of the players lining up on bith sides between third base and home giving the batter hugs and high fives all the way in, it pisses me off.
I was a pretty good ball player as a kid, and the last thing I said to the grandfather I loved, as he dropped me off on a Sacramento on ramp, to hitchhike to Arizona for a SF Giants tryout, was Wish me luck.
He drove home, mowed the lawn, and dropped dead in the kitchen from a heart attack. I never made that tryout, but the WW1 U.S. flag I received from his funeral, rests proudly in my Cave.
Anyway, one day I was sitting in the bleachers watching Riley play baseball as a kid, when he hit a home run. I ran towards home plate and gave him a high five just before he touched home base, and they called him out because of the contact!
It pissed me off and I never did it again, and now I see these guys getting swamped at home plate, hell you never even see his foot touch the bag.
Every time I watch this happen now, I think of that afternoon in Kent, WA.
